Synopsis

As the agricultural industry is rapidly declining, he created 17 harmless rice bombs, in hope to wake up the conscience of the government. 

Based on a true social event, The Rice Bomber depicts a series of bombing events in Taiwan a decade ago. It is a time when the agriculture is struggling to survive. A man strives to arouse the government’s attention and to revive its conscience by making 17 rice bombs.

In November 2003, Yang Rumen(Ru)  placed the first rice bomb in a park in Taipei. On the bomb was attached a note, stating “Against rice importing,” “The government should look after its people.”

Ru was born and raised in a family making a living from farming for three generations.  In the late 1980s, the Taiwanese government set certain policies that were essentially hostile to local farmers and harmful to the farmlands. The situation deteriorated when government joined WTO in 2002. Dismayed by the circumstances, Ru decided to speak out for the farmers. With 17 self-made rice bombs, Ru hoped he could remind the government and the society of the agricultural issues, which they should have taken seriously long ago.

Synopsis

Synopsis

To any young baseball player, Koshien (Japan’s high school baseball championship) is the dream palace. When Taiwan was under Japanese occupation, the Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry Public School (a.k.a KANO, short for its Japanese name KAGI-NORIN School) formed a baseball team in 1928. It never occurred to them that a group of farmer boys like them would have the chance to fight for the Koshien championship. The arrival of Coach Kondo made it all possible. Kondo transformed the team not only by giving rigorous training but also by making the best use of their multiethnic composition— Japanese, Taiwanese and aboriginals, which helped the KANO team leave a legacy that eventually became a legend.

Synopsis

Synopsis

Chun-Ying comes from the countryside. As Chu-Ying’s brilliant performance in sport wins her a place in a prestigious girls’ high school in Taipei, she leaves home to study in Taipei on her own. Chun-Ying’s story is familiar to her tug-of-war teammates since most of them come from single-parent families or disadvantaged backgrounds. Nonetheless, these girls are positive and optimistic. The lack of economic support from their families makes them even more determined to achieve their goal, and staunch camaraderie is established between them as a result. When Chun-Ying is admitted to the school, she knows nothing about tug-of-war. However, trained strictly by Coach Kuo and supported by the tender and encouraging Ms Wu, the girls take on the physical challenge, the frustration and the prejudice against sport from other students and some teachers. In the end, their sweat and tears pay off when they win the gold medal at the World Indoor Tug-of-war Championship. They have shown their strength and spirit to the whole world.
