Synopsis

Van Pao-Te, who is now 60 years old, finds himself suffering from a serious illness, instead of getting treatment, he decides to go to Japan to look for his father who abandoned him 50 years ago with the accompany of his son. At the same time, a young man from Hong Kong who is somehow related to Van Pao-Te’s past comes to Taiwan. Two unknown journeys of self-reconciliation begin…

Born in 1967 in Taiwan, HSIAO Ya-Chuan graduated from the Fine Art Department of the National Institute of Arts. His first feature-length film, Mirror Image (2000), was selected in the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes in 2001 and won numerous awards, such as Best First Feature at Torino Film Festival, and Best Film and Best New Director at Taipei Film Festival. His second feature, Taipei Exchanges (2010), gained positive feedback from the audience and critical response, and also won Audience’s Choice Award and Best Music at Taipei Film Festival and other awards. His short film which is included in 10+10 (2012) with other Taiwanese directors was selected in Panorama section at the Berlin International Film Festival. Father to Son will be his third feature, aims to complete in 2017.

Executive Producer  HOU Hsiao-Hsien

HOU Hsiao-Hsien, born in 1947, is the most important figure in Taiwan’s New Wave cinema movement, and one of the leading directors in world cinema. His A City of Sadness (1985) was the first Taiwanese film that won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival, and The Puppetmaster (1993) later won the Jury prize in Cannes. His latest feature The Assassin (2015), won the award for Best Director at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. HOU is also a producer who participated in ZHANG Yimou’s Raise the Red Lantern (1991). He has also actively participated in supporting outstanding directors from the younger generation, by serving as the Chairman of the Golden Horse Award and taking on the role as the executive producer for many films made by new directors, such as HSIAO Ya-Chuan’s Mirror Image (2000) and Taipei Exchange (2010).

Michael JQ HUANG

A famous and senior Taiwanese actor who was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Bell Awards with the TV series, Wake Up (2015). He is active in films, TV dramas and on-stage productions, and was one of the supporting actor in HOU Hsiao-Hsien’s Lovable You (1981), and HBO Asia latest TV series The Teenage Psychic (2017).

CHUANG Kai-Hsun

Born in 1981 in Taiwan, CHUANG Kai-Hsun graduated from the Department of Theatre Arts (Acting) at the Taipei National University of the Arts. He has played various roles in several films, TV dramas and on stage productions. CHUANG Kai-Hsun is awarded with the Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film at the Golden Bell Awards in 2015, and the Best Supporting Actor at the Taipei Film Festival in 2016.

FU Meng-Po

As a young generation actor in Taiwan, FU Meng-Po attracts great attention from the audience since he began to take parts in commercials and TV dramas when he was a student. LU Hsueh-Feng

Born into a Taiwanese opera family in 1964, LU Hsueh-Feng is a senior Taiwanese opera actress and director, who can also be seen in various films and TV dramas. LU Hsueh-Feng is awarded with the Best Supporting Actress at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Awards in 2015, and has been nominated for the Golden Bell Awards several times.
